Completion of 85% of the New Water Desalination Plant in Umm Al Quwain

​Mohammad Mohammad Saleh, Director General of Etihad Water and Electricity confirmed that the completion rate of the new Umm Al Quwain desalination plant, the largest of its kind in the region, has reached 85%, pointing out that the average number of workers in the project is about 4,500 workers per month. So far, 18 million man-hours have been completed.
Saleh explained that the plant is one of the most important projects that will achieve water security in the country. It is designed according to the highest international standards and relies on the latest operating technologies such as electric motors equipped with variable frequency drive technology to reduce energy consumption.
The Director General of EtihadWE said that the construction stages of the station are carried out according to the plan, as the first stage is scheduled to be completed and the actual production will start at a rate of 50 million gallons per day before the end of this year 2021. He pointed out that the total production capacity will reach 150 million gallons per day after completing all stages of completion during the second half of 2022.
Saleh pointed out that through the first stage of the project, 30 million gallons will be transported and distributed daily towards Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, and 20 million gallons to the areas of Bateen Al Samar, Al Jazeera and Al Riffaa in Ras Al Khaimah.
It is noteworthy that the new water desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain is built on an area of 250,000 square meters, while its total cost is about 2.2 billion dirhams, and it will serve all areas supervised by Etihad Water and Electricity.
