Completion of 71% of the Desalination Plant in Umm Al Quwain

​H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, accompanied by H.E. Mohammad Mohammad Saleh, Director General of "Etihad Water & Electricity" and a number of officials inspected the progress of work on the new desalination plant project in Umm Al Quwain.
During the press conference held in the meantime, H.E. the minister stated that the completion rate at the plant, the largest of its kind in the region, has reached 71%, as the first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed and the station will start its actual production at a rate of 50 million gallons per day during the last quarter of this year. The plant’s total production capacity will reach 150 million gallons per day after the completion of all phases during the second half of 2022.
Al Marzrouei emphasized that the plant is one of the most important projects that would achieve water security in the United Arab Emirates.
For his part, Mohammad Mohammad Saleh, Director General of "Etihad Water & Electricity", said that the plant is being built on an area estimated at 250 thousand square meters and costs about 2.2 billion dirhams. It will serve all areas supervised by Etihad WE in the Northern Emirates.
He pointed out that 4000 workers are working on the construction and electrical installations at the site, where about 10 million work hours have been completed without any loss of life despite the accuracy of the associated construction operations, pointing out that all the material needed to complete the plant have been supplied and that there is a monthly follow-up of the requirements for environmental safety.
