EtihadWE Achieves Regional Milestone with Transition to the Esri Utility Network to Enhance Smart Asset Management

Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has announced its transition to the modern Esri Utility Network, becoming the first utility in the UAE and the wider region to adopt this fully integrated system for modelling and managing electricity and water networks. This strategic shift marks a major step in the company’s ongoing digital transformation journey and reinforces its position as a national leader in adopting global best practices in utility management and critical infrastructure services.

The project introduces an advanced modelling framework within a unified digital environment that enables engineers and designers to manage utility networks with greater efficiency. Built on a consolidated geospatial database within the Geographic Information System (GIS), the new system allows for real-time data integration and analysis, helping reduce operational risks, improve design and planning accuracy, and support better decision-making through standardized, repeatable engineering processes.

Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Water and Electricity, said: "This transition represents a significant milestone in EtihadWE’s digital transformation journey and reflects our commitment to continuous innovation in the management of critical infrastructure."

Al Ali added that building a smart digital model of the water and electricity networks will enable more precise resource management, ensure more reliable service delivery, and pave the way for the use of artificial intelligence in geospatial analytics, enhancing resource sustainability and supporting the nation’s direction toward smart cities and a knowledge-driven economy.

For his part, Eng. Abdulla Al Khemeiri, Chief Operating Officer, affirmed that the transition to the modern utility network modelling system underscores EtihadWE’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence, digital integration, and delivering reliable, efficient services across the Northern Emirates. He explained that the new system represents a strategic transformation in operational management by providing a unified and accurate view of the water and electricity networks through an integrated digital platform. This enhances planning efficiency, strengthens predictive maintenance capabilities, improves response speed and contributes to faster decision-making, while reducing human error through automated field-update workflows directly linked to core operational systems.

Al Khemeiri noted that this level of integration is a foundational step toward an advanced, interconnected, and sustainable digital infrastructure—one that enhances flexibility, transparency, and service excellence, with a strong focus on elevating the customer experience.

Esri Utility Network is one of Esri’s leading global GIS solutions, enabling seamless connectivity between network components including stations, assets, and operational elements. It also offers advanced integration with enterprise SAP systems, enhancing asset management efficiency and operational planning capabilities.

Etihad Water and Electricity Signs MoU with ePointZero to Enhance Energy Sustainability in the Northern Emirates

Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ePointZero, a global investment platform focused on delivering end-to-end solutions across the energy value chain and a subsidiary of the International Holding Company (IHC) group, to explore new power generation projects and support the UAE’s clean energy transition.

By expanding its energy portfolio, EtihadWE aims to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of the power network serving the region. The partnership will focus on projects under EtihadWE’s Self-Generation Program, including gas, renewables, and battery storage solutions.

Under the MoU, EtihadWE and ePointZero will assess potential project sites, investment models, and financing structures. ePointZero and its affiliates may also contribute advanced technologies, equipment, or engineering services to accelerate implementation and ensure optimal integration with the national grid.

Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity, said:
“This MoU represents a significant step toward advancing a more reliable and sustainable power system across the Emirates. Through this collaboration, we aim to enhance efficiency, drive decarbonisation, and ensure stable energy supply for future generations. Partnering with ePointZero combines innovation and expertise to deliver tangible benefits to our customers and communities.”

Mohamed Hesham, CEO of ePointZero, added:
“Our collaboration with EtihadWE represents an important step toward building greater energy resilience across the region. Together, we will build a new model for how generation, storage, and transmission can work in sync — one that strengthens local capacity while enabling sustainable growth for the communities we serve.”

The projects will be led by EtihadWE’s subsidiary, Emirates Utilities Development Company (EUDC), which develops and manages infrastructure projects across the region.

Once detailed feasibility studies and due diligence are completed, the partnership may progress to a Joint Development Agreement, formalising investment and implementation arrangements.

Etihad Water and Electricity participates in a consortium to implement the Dawadmi Wind Power Project in Saudi Arabia with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts

  • A step that reinforces UAE–Saudi collaboration in clean energy
  • Project achieves the world’s lowest cost of wind power generation
In the presence of Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Power Procurement Company (Principal Buyer), and the Ambassadors of the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea, a new wind power project in the Kingdom was awarded to a consortium comprising Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE), the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and Nesma Renewable Energy.

The project, with a total capacity of 1,500 megawatts (MW) and a production cost of 5.01760 halalas (equivalent to 1.33803 US cents per kilowatt-hour), has been named the Dawadmi Wind Power Project and set a new global record for the lowest cost of wind power generation worldwide.

H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and Chairman of Etihad Water and Electricity, said: “This milestone reinforces the depth of the UAE–Saudi partnership and their integration in the clean energy sector. The participation of a leading national company such as Etihad Water and Electricity in a major project of this scale demonstrates the capability of UAE talent and national institutions to contribute effectively to achieving energy security and sustainability, regionally and globally. It also accelerates the transition towards a low-carbon economy in line with the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative, and supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.”

Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Water and Electricity, said: “We take pride in joining the consortium implementing the Dawadmi Wind Power Project, which achieved the lowest global cost in the wind energy sector — an accomplishment that reflects the strength of development and financing models in the region.”

Al Ali affirmed that this participation aligns with EtihadWE’s strategic direction toward responsible investment in renewable energy assets. He emphasised that the company continues to work with its partners locally and internationally to facilitate knowledge transfer and apply the highest technical and environmental standards to enhance system reliability and efficiency, reflecting its commitment to translating the UAE leadership’s vision into tangible actions that support national strategies for energy, sustainability, and climate neutrality.

The Dawadmi Wind Power Project represents a new addition to Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy capacity, helping reduce electricity generation costs and enhance system efficiency over the long term. It also underscores the success of the National Renewable Energy Program in attracting leading international and regional partnerships, reinforcing investor confidence, and accelerating power transmission projects across the Gulf region.

EtihadWE Announces Adoption of WAYN During GITEX 2025, Advancing UAE’s Digital Transformation

On the sidelines of its participation in GITEX Global 2025, Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE), the leading provider of water and electricity services and a key enabler of development and sustainability across the Northern Emirates, announced their official integration  with WAYN, the UAE’s Digital P.O. Box. The initiative enables EtihadWE to deliver customer bills and payment notifications through a secure and trusted digital channel — marking it as the first utilities company on the WAYN platform.

With this step, EtihadWE customers will now receive their bills directly in their personal WAYN account, known as a ‘WAYN’ ID. Each ‘WAYN’ ID is a lifetime digital mailbox linked to UAE Pass, providing every resident with a secure place to receive official communications from government entities and service providers. Unlike traditional email or paper mail, WAYN ensures that only verified and trusted organisations can send messages, eliminating the risk of spam or fraudulent content.

Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of EtihadWE, said:
“At EtihadWE, we are committed to making life easier for our customers by embracing the latest national digital solutions. Through WAYN, our customers can be confident that their bills are delivered directly and securely, wherever they are, and always stored safely in one place. This collaboration also supports the UAE’s expanding fintech and smart services ecosystem by enabling trusted, cashless, and digitally verifiable transactions.”

He added:
“By integrating our billing with WAYN, we reaffirm our role as an active contributor to the UAE’s digital transformation journey. This milestone demonstrates our commitment to providing services that are innovative, reliable, and aligned with the UAE’s vision for a smarter, more sustainable future.”

Tariq Al Wahedi, Group Chief Executive Officer of 7X, said:
“7X designed WAYN to bring trust and simplicity to the way people in the UAE receive important communications. By joining the platform, EtihadWE ensures its customers benefit from a new level of convenience and data protection. This partnership reflects how digital transformation directly enhances people’s everyday lives while strengthening the UAE’s position as a global leader in digital services.”

The announcement, made during GITEX Global 2025, underscores both EtihadWE and 7X’s ongoing efforts to enhance customer convenience, strengthen data privacy, and advance the UAE’s national agenda for digital transformation. Through this initiative, EtihadWE customers can now access their bills anytime and anywhere, confident that their information is secure, protected, and always available in their digital mailbox.
