Eng. Yousif Al Ali: AlDhaid Exhibition Offers an Opportunity to Explore the Challenges Confronting the Agricultural Sector

The Expo Al Dhaid witnessed the launch of the inaugural Agriculture Exhibition, organized by the Expo Centre Sharjah with support from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock - Sharjah. The event will continue until January 21st. Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) is participating in the exhibition alongside numerous ministries and government authorities, and over 50 companies operating in the agricultural and livestock sector, as well as farm owners.

The exhibition was inaugurated by H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Expo Centre Sharjah, in the presence of Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity, and a group of senior officials and investors in the agricultural sector.

H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais emphasized that the Al Dhaid, hosting this innovative and unique event, has become a pioneering model in agricultural development, thanks to the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He explained that Sharjah prioritizes food security within its developmental plans, in line with efforts to activate the role of relevant authorities and the private sector in improving the efficiency of local agriculture, supporting its products, aligning them with best practices, and incorporating innovation in agricultural production. This contributes to attracting investments in sectors related to food security.

Al Owais noted the Sharjah Chamber's cooperation with its strategic partners to achieve the objectives of the national strategy for food security, by encouraging farmers and enabling them to use the latest scientific and technological methods to enhance agriculture and increase its productivity.

On his part, Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EtihadWE, noted that most farms served by the company are in the central region and Al Dhaid. The participation in A Dhaid Agriculture Exhibition aims to meet with farmers, understand the challenges they face in water and electricity sectors, and find suitable and sustainable solutions to manage these vital resources in agriculture sector and reduce groundwater wastage.

Engineer Yousif Al Ali stated that about 9,000 farms in the central and northern regions within the company's service area are covered by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to support the monthly electricity costs on them, which has been implemented since current January.
