Director-General to "Albayan" 8 Billion Dirhams for Electricity Projects over the Next 10 Years

Mohammad Mohammad Saleh, Director General of Etihad Water and Electricity, revealed that preparations are underway to implement a new package of electricity sector projects over the next 10 years, including the establishment of a number of power stations and the extension of cables and overhead power lines in all areas at a total cost of more than 8 billion dirhams.

He told “Albayan”: The total number of power stations is currently 126 stations, including 33 main power stations with a voltage of 132 kV and 93 substations with a voltage of 33 kV, in addition to more than 19 thousand low-voltage distribution stations. The main and substations are distributed at 37 stations in Ras Al Khaimah, 30 in Ajman, 28 in Fujairah and Dibba Al Fujairah, 19 in the Central Area, and 12 stations in Umm Al Quwain.

He explained that the electricity sector projects that have been completed since the beginning of this year are represented in a main power station and a number of projects to extend and rehabilitate cables and transmission lines.

He said that Etihad Water and Electricity completed the construction and operation of a main 132 kV power station in February as it will serve the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain. As for the projects to extend and rehabilitate cables and transmission lines, they included diverting a number of 33 kV feeders and connecting cables in various areas at a cost of about 30 million dirhams.

Saleh indicated that work is currently underway on a number of power stations in Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, at a total cost of about 480 million dirhams. These stations include the main Sharisha power station in Ras Al Khaimah. Work is also underway on 9 distribution stations with a voltage of 33 kV, which are the Mohammed bin Zayed Station in Ajman, Julfar, Azan (3) and Seih Al Burairat stations in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah Airport Station, and Al Aqah Station in Dibba Al Fujairah.

The Director General of Etihad Water and Electricity indicated that the total number of beneficiaries of services and facilities for humanitarian cases, including the category of senior citizens, since the beginning of the year until reached about 4,500 customers.
