Mohammad Mohammad Saleh, Director General of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority revealed an integrated projects for the water sector associated with the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain. These projects represented in 3 distribution centers, a pumping station, and expansion of Al-Burairat pumping station, at a total cost of 732 million dirhams.
Saleh detailed to “Al-Bayan” the projects, namely: Al-Khuraijah and Al-Ghail Distribution Centers in Ras Al-Khaimah with a total capacity of 200 million at a cost of 577 million dirhams, Helio Distribution Center in Ajman with a capacity of 40 million gallons at a cost of 70 million dirhams. They come with establishment of a pumping station in Al-Khuraijah at a cost of 60 million dirhams and expansion of Al-Burairat pumping station at a cost of 25 million dirhams.
Saleh said that most of the Authority's projects in the water sector are strategic with the aim of achievement of the UAE Water Security Strategy, the most important of which is the new desalination plant project in Umm al-Quwain, through which an integrated projects for the water sector are implemented. The plant begins actual production at the end of 2021 with a capacity of 50 million gallons per day. The total capacity of the plant upon completion will reach 150 million gallons per day. The station is being built on an area of 250 thousand square meters and costing about 2.2 billion dirhams.
He continued: The authority is working in the current stage on a number of transmission and distribution projects in all regions, including 3 transmission pipelines from the new desalination plant, one of which is to the Al-Khuraijah Distribution Center with a length of 42.5 km and costs 214 million dirhams. The second is to Umm Al Quwain Distribution Center with a length of 32 km and costs 130 million dirhams. The third to Bateen Al-Samar area with a length of 15 km and costs 40 million dirhams, in addition to a number of other extension projects at a total cost of about one billion dirhams.
The Director General of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority indicated that, in addition to the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain and the related projects as described above, the Authority plans to implement 7 other projects during the coming period, including transmission and distribution projects and expansion of the existing networks with a total cost of about 210 million dirhams.
