HE Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, thanked Etihad Water and Electricity for its support to the project of Emirates RDF Plant in Umm Al Quwain. She also thanked the Follow up Committee of the Initiatives of UAE President, for its sponsorship of the project, along with the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department and Umm Al Quwain Municipality Department.
The Ministry of Climate Change & Environment and Emirates RDF had signed 4 memoranda of understanding with Fujairah Cement Industries, GSW Cement, Lafarge Emirates and Star Cement to partially use alternative fuels generated from the municipal solid waste treatment by the Emirates RDF in their manufacturing operations as part of the ministry’s efforts To enhance the participation of the private sector in the pursuit of climate neutrality and to strengthen the integrated waste management system.
The aforementioned project is the first of its kind in the country and aims to treat MSW generated in the emirates of Ajman and Umm Al Quwain and turns it into RDF that can be used to provide energy for cement factories, which contributes to supporting sustainable development goals.
