Etihad Water and Electricity is implementing water projects worth 564 million dirhams during the first quarter of next year, including main transmission lines, water tanks and pumping stations.
Mohammed Saleh, Director General, told “albayan” that during the remaining months of this year, the implementation of many important water sector projects will be monitored, all of which will be completed during the first quarter of 2023, and they are represented in major transmission lines of different diameters, with a total cost of up to 160 million dirhams. Some of these lines start from Al Khurija Distribution Center towards Bateen Al Samar and Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah. Others are extended in Al Bustan and Al Karama areas in Ajman and Al Madfiq in Ras Al Khaimah.
He added: The aforementioned projects, which are scheduled to be completed during the first quarter of next year, also include 2 water tanks with a capacity of 20 million gallons, with a pumping station in Al Ghail Distribution Center in Ras Al Khaimah, at a cost of 120 million dirhams, and 2 other tanks with a capacity of 40 million gallons in Al Helio Distribution Center In Ajman, at a cost of 104 million dirhams, as well as a pumping station in Al Khurija Distribution Center, at a cost of 180 million dirhams.
He explained that the new water desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain, with a capacity of 150 million gallons per day, is one of the most prominent projects that are expected to enter service at full capacity before the end of this year.
He pointed out that the water sector projects that have been completed since the beginning of this year can be divided into network extension projects and storage capacity raising projects. As for the first category, about 150 km of main transmission lines had been completed until the end of the first half with different diameters ranging between 1400 and 1800 mm and a total cost of 750 million dirhams. Some of these lines start from the new water desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain towards the Al Khurija Distribution Center in Ras Al Khaimah, as well as towards the similar center located in Al Burairat area.
During the third quarter, projects to extend additional transmission lines with smaller diameters ranging between 800 and 1400 mm were completed, with a total cost of 140 million dirhams. Some of these lines start from Al Ghail Distribution Center towards Al Shoka Distribution Center in Ras Al Khaimah and Al Haniyah in Fujairah, while others start from Al Helio Distribution Center to the one located in Ajman.
As for the other category of water sector projects that were completed during the current year, they are represented in the projects to raise storage capacity, as the construction of 9 reinforced concrete tanks with a total capacity of 180 million gallons was completed at Al Khurija Distribution Center in Ras Al Khaimah in preparation for receiving a large part of the production of the water desalination plant of Umm Al Quwain.
