Etihad Water and Electricity Applies the Segments System in Electricity Connection Fees

04 Nov 2021

Etihad Water and Electricity announced the start of implementing a new system for calculating electricity connection fees based on segments, which will lead to a reduction in those fees, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as farm owners, resident’s housing category and other public connections without affecting the connection fees for the category of citizen’s housing category.
Director General Mohammad Mohammad Saleh said that the UAE Cabinet approved this initiative, which is in the interest of the national economy and aims to make it more competitive. Through it, electricity connection fees will be calculated based on the value of the required load and not based on the customer’s classification, pointing out that it entered into force as of the first This November.
Saleh stressed that although under the new system the tariff rises as the required load increases, most of the connection seekers in the citizen’s housing category will not be affected by this rise, as studies conducted by EtihadWE indicate that the average load for this type of housing does not exceed 120 kVA, while most of the connections made through the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program do not exceed the average required load of 100 kVA. This means that the segment that will be applied to this category is the first one, which is worth 300 dirhams per kVA and it is the same price that was applied under the previous system, pointing to the continuation of the facilities packages that are provided to citizens in this field, including the possibility of paying the fees in installments up to 24 months, according to the approved regulations.
Saleh also pointed out that the new system aims to support owners of small and medium-sized enterprises by reducing capital costs, as well as supporting community stability by reducing costs on the resident's housing category and other public connections.
Saleh also confirmed the continuation of the initiatives that were launched by EtihadWE earlier, including the initiative to support the industrial sector, which aims to enhance the role of industry in the GDP of the UAE, and the initiative to support the investment and tourism sector, which aims to support the community by facilitating the delivery of services for residential complexes within investment projects and the movement of trade in shopping centers.
