10 Jun 2021

Officials emphasized that the main orientation of the UAE in the coming period is to expand clean energy projects and increase reliance on the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as the wise leadership attaches great importance to promoting sustainable development and securing energy supplies in order to achieve the state's vision of being one of the best countries in the world by 2071 .
In this regard, the Director General of ‘Etihad Water and Electricity’ emphasized in a statement to ‘Albayan’ that most of the international reports related to this field recommend that renewable energy sources should play a greater role in global energy supplies in order to confront the environmental and economic threats of climate change.
He pointed out the importance of strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors through effective coordination in order to implement the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, stressing that the wise leadership developed that strategy based on an careful and in-depth study that took into account the geographical, climatic, economic and social conditions in the country and the region.
He stressed the importance of the National Energy Strategy, including providing a harmonious mix of clean, nuclear and fossil energy sources to ensure achieving the required balance between economic and environmental objectives alike. With regard to water, it is known that the UAE is one of the countries where there are no permanent sources of fresh water, given its geographical location and desert climate. It depends mainly on sea water desalination. Therefore, the National Water Security Strategy aims to ensure sustainable access to water during all conditions in line with the highest international standards adopted in this field.
