37 Green Charging Stations Completed by “Etihad Water and Electricity”

Etihad Water and Electricity has completed 37 green charging stations, 11 in Ras Al Khaimah, 9 in Ajman, 7 in Al Dhaid, 4 in Umm Al Quwain, 3 in Fujairah, and 3 in Dibba Al Fujairah.
“In an effort by EtihadWE to motivate the public to rely on electric cars, it has been decided that the charging service will be provided free of charge to the public until the end of the 2022, after which a nominal fee will be imposed,” said Mohamad Mohamad Saleh, Director General.
He explained that the number of users of the EtihadWE green charger stations is about 1,500 users, as work is currently underway to complete the E-Systems through which full statistics related to the use of these stations will be provided, pointing out that the green charging stations are divided into two types: quick charger stations and public charger stations, where the first are located in petrol stations on the highways and charges the vehicle within a period ranging from 20 to 40 minutes, while the public chargers are installed in a number of malls, government departments and hospitals, and they charge vehicle over a period of 2 to 4 hours.
He added that the EtihadWE’s project to establish green charging stations aims to provide the infrastructure that allows the spread of this type of vehicles, which is in line with the UAE's trends in switching to clean energy. It is known that vehicles are a major consumer of oil, and according to a recent study conducted by the Center on Global Energy Policy, it was found that the consumption of cars amounts to about 25% of the global total demand for oil, and there is no doubt that the spread of electric cars will lead to a reduction in that percentage in the United Arab Emirates.
